WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW

Because sexuality is invisible, it is only when we come out that our difference is known. Many people assume that we are all heterosexual, which can make it more difficult to come out. Sexuality is still not really talked about, although there are more diverse characters in soaps for example and not all publicity is negative. The following statements you may wish to consider through your journey.

You cannot change their behaviour and beliefs, you can only change yours.
All lesbians are not man haters.
All gay men do not have anal sex.
Not all lesbians are butch.
Not all gay men are camp.
Many parents feel a sense of loss or anger.
These feelings will change and subside as you meet and talk to others and realise that you are not alone.
Being lesbian, gay or bisexual is not wrong it is just different.
Do not expect your child to suppress their sexuality because it makes you feel uncomfortable.
There is support for your child, just as there is support available for you.
Many people assume everyone is straight.
