WHEN
YOUR CHILD COMES
OUT TO YOU
When your child
comes out to you,
or you first find
out about their sexuality,
you may face many
mixed emotions or
confusions.
You may feel angry,
disappointed, frustrated
and isolated. You
may feel uncertain
and blame yourself.
Your child has probably
gone through, this
process and may have
found new friends
or a support group
to help them come
to terms with their
sexuality. Now there
is support available
to parents who are
beginning a journey
to acceptance and
overcome the overcome
the obstacles that
this news may bring.
The Leicester Parents
Group is run by parents
who can talk and
empathise based on
their own experiences
of when their son
or daughter came
out. Our overriding
feelings were of
shock, disappointment
and the hope that
they 'might change
back'. Since then
we have learnt a
lot. Over the years
we have helped and
supported many parents
by , sending them
information packs,
providing a friendly
listening ear on
our help lines, and
our proudest achievement,
by talking to and
supporting parents
and knowing we have
kept families together.
This leaflet contains
some points that
parents of lesbian,
gay and bisexual
people should know.
